What is Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an alternative medicine methodology from ancient China that treats patient by manipulating thin, solid needles in certain areas that have been shown to be effective in the treatment of specific health conditions. Acupuncture is a natural way to heal health conditions and aches. From recent studies, researchers believe that acupuncture nourishes body tissues, stimulates blood flow, and helps enhance the immune system.

How effective is Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a highly effective alternative mathod when it comes to treating patients without using harmful chemicals or drugs. Acupuncture has a vast influence on the central nervous and peripheral nervous systems.  Acupuncture is known to release endorphins from the brain which is highly effective when it comes to pain control. Acupuncture is an effective method to use when improving your blood circulation as well as enhancing energy in your body.  Acupuncture also has the tendency to control your blood sugar level, cholesterol level in the blood while improve the gastrointestinal and the endocrine system.

What are the most commonly treated conditions

The most commonly treated conditions are pain related conditions such as lower back pain, neck pain, arthritis, shoulder pain, sprained muscle pain, sciatica and many more. The World Health Organization (WHO) also acknowledged acupuncture to be an effective treatment for respiratory, circulatory, gastrointestinal, urogenital, gynecological, psychological, and neurological conditions.

Is Acupuncture covered by insurance companies

Most insurance plans should include and cover acupuncture related services. You can contact your insurance carrier to find out more information regarding coverage and benefits. Some plans may not cover acupuncture itself, but will cover for your treatment expenses if your physician recommends them. Many PPO and HMO plans cover for acupunctural treatments.

Is Acupuncture Painful

Many people find acupuncture to be very relaxing and comfortable. The needles that are used for acupunctural treatment are very thin, so the insertion process is quick and easy. Some people tend to find acupuncture to have a mild tingling sensation and dull ache when the needle is inserted at the pressure points. This is a sensation that you feel when Qi is moving.

What should I expect on my first visit

The practitioner will ask you some basic health questions. which can range from medical history to current health condition(s), lifestyle and behavior to assess a complete picture of your treatment needs and medical history. At this time, you can inform all medications that you are on  treatments that you are currently in progress. This assessment will take roughly an hour and will give an overall idea to the practitioner to provide you with the necessary treatment for your individual health.

What are some precautions that I need to be aware of

It is not recommended to have an acupunctural procedure done when you are extremely hungry, or extremely tired. Some bruising might occur after the procedure. If you have any blood disorders, or is on blood thinners, please advise the acupuncturist prior to undergoing treatment. If you are pregnant or have a pacemaker, inform the acupuncturist before any procedure is done so an appropriate assortment of herbs and acupuncture points can be selected.

Should I advise my physician before getting acupuncture

Acupuncture is a legal practice that is accepted by the Complementary Alterative Medicine (CAM).  In order to reach optimal health and Well-being,  we combine the Western and Eastern methods to help enhance healing process. If you are currently receiving treatment from your physician, yes, it makes sense to advise him/her about your intent on receiving acupuncture. Feel free to provide your physician with necessary information about the acupuncturist and encourage him/her to contact us. Please inform any side effects that you might encounter from medications or treatments to your physician and acupuncturist.

Is herbal medication safe

At Queen Herb and Acupuncture Clinic, we only use the finest, most organic form of herbs. Herbs are safe, inexpensive alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs. Many health care professionals are skeptical about using herbs because of their safety level, effectiveness and most importantly misusage of the herbal products, especially when self prescribed. At Queen Herb and Acupuncture Clinic, we do not use any herbs that have not been passed by the KFDA (KOREA’S Food and Drug Administration which is Stricter than FDA). All herbs that we use are tested safe, legal for usage, heavy metal and pesticide standard level Herbs that I used in Queen Clinic are trust worth and safely consumed.

Before placing an order of herbal medication, it is extremely important for you, as the patient to inform all medications you are currently taking.

Should I continue my prescribed medication during acupunctural treatment

Yes, it is important to continue to intake the prescribed medication given by your physician, unless he/she tells you to stop. It is unsafe to cease your medication without a proper doctor’s guidance.

What credentials do acupuncturists hold

Today, acupuncturists are trained in a 4 year accredited graduate program. With this training, acupuncturists are required to obtain a valid license before practicing.  Acupuncturist are certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Traditional Eastern Medicine. This organization was established to regulate and practice acupuncture legally.

What are the side effects of acupuncture

There has been relatively few complications with practicing acupuncture. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) requires that all acupuncturists use a non-toxic, sterile needle only once. After usage, acupuncturists are required to disregard it. All needles are meant to be used once and if there are any defective needles, it must be discarded.

I am afraid of acupuncture needles. Can I only take the herbal medications

Generally, the dual action of taking herbal medication along with acupuncture has shown better results with restoring the body and balancing the body in a more efficient way.  So, it is often recommended to undergo both therapies at the same time. However, consuming only herbal medication is okay, but only under supervision by a licensed herbaologist.
